What to Expect

low back pain relief with chiropractic care

Many individuals do not know what to expect when visiting a chiropractic clinic because they have never been treated by a chiropractor before, or have never been in an accident to require them to be treated. Our goal is to tell you what to expect when your visit your chiropractor for the first time.

We know visiting a chiropractor can seem daunting, so we want to explain the entire process to you, beginning to end, so you do not have any concerns.

First of all, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Chiropractic treatment is a completely safe, pain-free, and 100% natural way of recovery.

Our doctors have over 40 years experiencing relieving pain symptoms and readjusting the body so it can function at its optimum level.

If you have been injured in an accident, or are just suffering from back and neck pain, you may want to schedule an appointment at our clinic.

There is nothing to worry about, and just to help you be prepared, we have created a detailed account of what exactly you can expect before, during, and after your visit.

What to Expect Before You Visit

When you call or fill out a form to request your first free consultation at our clinic, one of our staff members will walk you through exactly what you need to bring and be prepared for.

Some of the things you need to keep in mind before coming into our clinic for your appointment is to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing.

If you like what you hear during your consultation and choose to be adjusted by the doctor, you will most like be required to lie down on the table and move around for your different therapies. Therefore, it would be better if you wore comfortable clothing, and avoided things like skirts or dresses.

Also, if you are coming into our clinic because you were injured in an accident, you will need to bring more paperwork and information than someone else who is receiving treatment for pain not associated with a personal injury accident.

While every patient may want to bring in medical records or previous x-rays, accident injury victims should also bring in the police report from the crash, any insurance information they have obtained, and their attorney's name, firm, and phone number if they have hired one.

If you do not have access to this information yet or choose not to bring it, that is also fine and we can discuss what course of action you want to take during your free consultation.

What to Expect During

During your consultation, you will meet with the doctor and talk about your accident (if you were involved in one), your pain symptoms, and what you believe caused these injuries.

It would also be helpful to the doctor's diagnosis and treatment plan to know a little about your medical history, current ongoing health conditions, and any recent medical procedures that you underwent.

This knowledge will help your doctor correctly diagnose your condition and create an individualized treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs.

Once you are done talking with the doctor, he or she will begin the examination process to diagnose your condition.

He will most likely evaluate your posture, spinal alignment, as well as the way you walk. From this evaluation, the doctor will be able to tell what areas of movement are restricted.

In addition to this, you will most likely also need an x-ray so the chiropractor has an idea of which spinal bones are out of alignment.

Once the chiropractor feels comfortable and has determined the root cause of your symptoms, he will begin explaining the treatment process and how long it will take to correct your problem.

Depending on the treatment plan that your doctor prescribes, you will most likely begin with a manual or instrument-assisted adjustment.

The doctor will have you positioned face down on a specially designed table. This table is made to help with chiropractic adjustments.

Using a small tool or his hands, the chiropractor will begin by applying a controlled force to your affected joint.

It is common to hear a crack or a pop when your joints are being adjusted. This is the same as if you are cracking your knuckles.

It is completely safe and is simply the release of gas from the joint.

What to Expect After

When the doctor is done adjusting you, you may spend some time doing other therapies, or you may be finished with your treatment for the day.

After leaving our clinic you will experience one of three feelings.

  • Some patients experience immediate relief
  • Some experience minor and temporary soreness in the area adjusted
  • Some do not feel any different at all

Relief is very common because the adjustment resulted in normal nerve energy being restored. This can immediately reduce pain and soreness but is not guaranteed.

Other individuals have reported feeling more limber or relaxed after receiving treatment.

If you feel nothing after your adjustment, that is also normal and quite common. Although many changes are slowly happening within the body, you may not feel them, and there will be no outward signs.

Over time you will be able to notice the difference in your overall neuromuscular performance.

Now if you feel some soreness after your appointment, this is also common and nothing to be concerned about.

Soreness in the adjusted area is typically caused because the body has gotten used to being misaligned and now it has been corrected into the proper position.

The body will need to properly adjust to this and then soreness will disappear.

Our clinic has been treating patients for over 40 years. Our expertise is like no other in the triad.

If you have been injured in an accident or are suffering from neck and back pain, do not hesitate to schedule your free consultation today.

If you have any questions at all, one of our caring staff members will be available to answer your questions and address your concerns.
