Shock can lead to more serious complications that include oxygen deprivation, organ damage, or a heart attack if the victim is left untreated.

After experiencing a traumatic car accident, it is crucial to be examined at the scene of the accident and then taken immediately to the emergency room.

When someone experiences shock after a car crash it can be life-threatening. If you have been involved in a car accident, it is important to be aware of any symptoms of shock. Shock requires

immediate medical attention in order to restore blood and oxygen flow in the body.

Types of Shock

There are three different types of shock that can be directly associated with car accidents:

1. Cardiogenic Shock: This occurs when the heart is damaged to the point where it is not able to supply a sufficient amount of blood to the body.

2. Hypovolemic Shock: This occurs when the accident victim suffers from severe loss of fluid or blood, this renders the heart unable to pump enough blood through the body.

3. Neurogenic Shock: This occurs when damage is caused to the nervous system.

Although the type of shock will depend on the severity of the accident and the injuries that are suffered, there are symptoms of shock that may be experienced across the board.

Symptoms of Shock

The symptoms of shock that can be noticed right away may include one or more of the following:

  • Low Blood Pressure
  • Clammy or Cold Skin
  • Shallow Breathing
  • Weak Pulse
  • Dizziness
  • Enlarged Pupils
  • Chest Pain
  • Weakness
  • Excessive Sweating
  • Loss of Consciousness
  • Seizures
  • Rapid Pulse
  • Nausea or Vomiting

These symptoms may be experienced depending upon the condition that the victim is in as well as the injuries that they suffered.

After a motor vehicle accident occurs, shock can often accompany injuries that caused heavy bleeding, broken bones, or spinal injuries.

Do Not Delay Medical Treatment after a Car Accident

If you were involved in a serious car accident and suspect that you or someone else is suffering from symptoms of shock, or any other injuries for that matter, seeking immediate medical attention is your best chance at recovering.

Do not wait for the symptoms to go away, even if you think they will pass after an hour or two, by then it may be too late. Do not wait for the symptoms to worsen, call emergency medical services immediately before anything worse can happen.
